Week 3 Reflection!

It has been week 3 already, time really does move too fast.  Everyone was fixated on the video as I joined them at the table with my group mates. As soon as everyone entered class, Dr. Lina started with her slides. we were then instructed to scan the QR code for Mentimeter. One of the first questions were " Whose blog impresses you the most?" Everyone eagerly typed their peers' names. I was surprised to see my name there as well, even though it was misspelled. I was curious as to who had voted for me. After that, almost all my peers were called upon to present on certain aspects that are related to our blogs. Everyone was hesitant, but participated well regardless. Dr. Lina then explained about what is evidence-based teaching. We were then told to vote for the top teaching method strategies using Mentimeter. The first place went to cooperative teaching. We then had to discuss with our peers about what is the most effective teaching with reasonings.

After that, we were instructed to have a small break for a Jigsaw activity. The jigsaw method of teaching is a collection of themes that students will fully explore before coming together to form a comprehensive idea, just like a jigsaw puzzle is a collection of varied pieces that come together to make a complete picture. To be more precise, this kind of cooperative learning technique enables people or small groups to take charge of a subcategory of a bigger topic. Each person or small group is in charge of teaching their idea to the rest of the group or class after conducting research and developing it. The jigsaw approach has various advantages that can be used in the classroom. To begin with, most of the time, students who take responsibility for their education will comprehend the subject matter more thoroughly. Students actively participate in the learning process, which fosters a deeper comprehension of the subject matter.

Students who are given the chance to participate in a group also learn practical skills like communication and adhering to a schedule. Along with encouraging conversation and cooperation, this approach also supports self-directed learning techniques. When students collaborate, they develop the skills of asking questions to clarify their understanding and giving constructive criticism in the right context. Additionally, the jigsaw style of education successfully boosts students' academic performance in the crucial cognitive skills of problem-solving and analysis.

We were assigned to a new group based on our topics. There are 6 strategies and mine was Interactive learning.  The other strategies were Assessment for learning, Graphic organiser, Manipulatives, Reciprocal learning and Cooperative learning. Once we had completed our discussion in our new group, we then returned to our original groups to share our newly gained knowledge on the strategy that was individually assigned to us. My original group and I then presented our understanding on each strategies to our peers. According to our understanding, Interactive learning focuses on the maximum engagement of learners which ensures participation. Assessment for learning which also known as formative assessment involves the ongoing evaluation of a students' learning process throughout a course. Cooperative learning promotes active learning and participation. Reciprocal learning is where students improve their reading comprehension by scaffolding. Manipulatives refers to physical materials that are used to assist students to understand and apply various strategies. Graphic organiser represents knowledge and ideas in visual formats. For instance, diagrams and mind maps.

Interactive learning is Information transmitted in classrooms more experientially and practically through interactive learning. The foundation of passive learning is the memorization of facts, figures, and equations by rote. However, with interactive learning, pupils are given the opportunity to take part in the discussion via technology (online reading and maths programmes, for instance) or group role-playing activities in the classroom. After gaining knowledge from our new groups, we gathered in our original group to share it each other.

  1. Dear Shatana
Your Week 3 blog is making great progress, but for some reason, you didn't provide a strong conclusion with a takeaway message. Please try to revise it, and once you do, let me know, and I will reevaluate it.

    Best wishes,
    Lian
